Catherin Bull – Mixed media workshop
participant types: adults and high school students (15 years plus)
level: all levels [beginner to advanced]
This workshop will focus on approaches to selecting a botanical subject and the form of visual communication that will be most effective in communicating its particular qualities. It will focus not only on the accurate depiction of the subject but also on the selection of format, layout, colour, emphasis and medium, whether watercolour, colour pencil, graphite or ink.
Participants will be encouraged to use the workshop to explore new approaches and to use the tutor and group to gain feedback on their explorations.
Artist profile: As an academic and practising landscape architect Catherin Bull’s work in botanical art explores the intersection between landscape as a cultural construct, ecology as science and art as practice. She takes inspiration, not only in her choice of subject matter but in composition and format, from the work of the landscape modernists and their determination to make us see Australian nature ‘as it is’. Her large-scale works often feature the plant in its wider environment and the interactions within.
